Festivals during Chaturmasya 2008

Jagadguru performing Vara Mahalakshmi Vrata Puja

A number of festivals took place during the Chaturmasya period such as Varamahalakshmi Vrata on 15th August and the Gokulashtami Puja on 23rd August. The Shravana Somavara Pujas were observed on 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th August. On 11th August, flash floods in the Tunga made Narasimhavanam inaccessible for an entire day - the first time since the construction of the Vidyatirtha Sethu (bridge). Even flash floods in the Tunga on August 11th did not deter devotees who had come from all over India to watch the Jagadguru perform the Somavara Puja. The devotees were ferried across in a boat arranged by the Math authorities, from the southern end of the Vidyatirtha Sethu to Guru Nivas and were able to attend the Somavara Puja.
