Historic Kumbhabhisheka Celebrations of Rajagopuram at Sringeri Commence


 

With the completion of the construction of the 127 feet tall majestic Rajagopuram, the grand Kumbhabhishekam is set to be performed by Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji on Jaya Samvatsariya Jyeshtha Shuddha Dashami falling on June 08 2014.

A brief history …

  • February 28 2008 : Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji lays the foundation stone for the Rajagopuram at the entrance of the Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri. As time passed and the Rajagopuram began taking shape, three more important ceremonies took place when significant milestones were reached.
  • December 12 2008 : The foundation is completed and Shilanyasa is performed.
  • November 12 2010 : The Jagadguru performes a special Puja when the frames were fitted at the entrance of the Rajagopuram.
  • September 26 2012 : Another Puja is performed when the granite base of the Rajagopuram was completed.
  • May 31 2014 : As per the age old tradition, devotees from various places come in a procession to offer their Kanika towards this grand event.

The Celebrations take place from the 1st of June 2014 to the 13th of June 2014.

Today’s event at Sringeri

  • 8 am to 12:30 pm – Lakshamodaka Homa
  • 6:30 pm – Vadya Vrinda, an ensemble of 25 musicians performing under Vidwan Sri Kumaraswamy.
