Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji completed His 40th Chaturmasya on 9th September 2014 at Sringeri.

During the Chaturmasya period, the Jagadguru performed a number of Pujas and observed a number of Vratas. These included the elaborate Shravana Somavara Pujas on 5 Mondays of the Shravana month, the Varamahalakshmi Vrata and the Krishna Janmashtami Puja. The Swarna Gowri Vrata was observed in the Math premises at Pravachana Mandiram on 28th August. Many Suvasinis came to the Math from in and around Sringeri and offered worship.

On 29th August, the Jagadguru performed the Vinayaka Chaturthi Puja. At 4 pm, the Mahaganapati Vakyartha Vidwat Sabha commenced under the august chairmanship of the Jagadguru. As part of the week-long Ganesha Chaturthi Celebrations in the Sadvidya Sanjeevini Samskrita Mahapathashala, Vidwan Hitlalli Sooryanarayana Nagendra Bhat and Vidwan G Mahabaleshwara Bhat gave inspiring speeches to the Vidyarthis during the Vag Vardhini Sabha. For the worship at the Pathashala, the Vidyarthis had prepared a beautiful golden chariot like structure and performed Puja to Lord Ganesha seated inside the chariot.

Kedareshwara Vrata (3rd September), Sri Vamana Jayanti Puja (5th September) and Ananta Padmanabha Vrata (8th September) were devoutly performed by the Jagadguru. After completing Ananta Padmanabha Vrata from 8:30AM to 9:30 AM on 8th September, the Jagadguru observed the Uma Maheshwara Vrata at noon the same day as the Bhadrapada Poornima thithi had set in by then.

On the next day (9th September) to mark the completion of Chaturmasya Vrata Anushtanam, the Jagadguru Mahaswamiji undertook Seemollanghanam – crossing the boundary – by crossing over to the northern bank of the Tunga to have Darshan at Goddess Sharada temple and other temples in the Math premises in the morning and to the temple of Lord Malahanikareshwara situated on a nearby hillock in the evening.

  • An object continues to be dear as long as one derives pleasure from it and it is detested for the duration that it causes pain. The same object cannot be always liked or disliked. Sometimes, that which is not dear may become dear. Moreover, that which was loveable can turn unpleasant. The Atma, towards which affection never wanes, is always the most beloved. • It is pitiful that when many of us are asked, “who are you?”, The first thought that arises is “I am a Keralite”, or “I am a Punjabi”, etc. The thought that should immediately stem is “I am an Indian”. If people first feel that they are Indians and only then think of divisions, the nation will have great prosperity and the divisive forces will not be operative as they are today.
