Jagadguru Shankaracharyas perform Vyasa Puja and take the vow of Chaturmasya Vrata

The Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahasannidhanam, along with His Uttaradhikari Shishya, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Sri Vidhushekhara Bharati Sannidhanam, performed Vyasa Puja heralding the beginning of Chaturmasya Vrata, today, on the holy day of Vyasa Purnima also famed as Guru-Purnima, at Narasimha-Vanam, Sringeri amidst sonorous chanting of Vedic Mantras by the scholars of the Sri-Math aswell as students of the Sadvidya Sanjeevini Samskrita Mahapathashala. Following the Vyasa Puja, the Jagadgurus performed the Chaturmasya Vrata Sankalpa and will observe the Chaturmasya Vrata at Sringeri till September 28.

Following the hoary tradition of the Sri-Math Samsthanam, the Jagadguru will perform special pujas on special occasions viz. Shravana Somavara, Sri Vara-Mahalakshmi Vrata, Sri Krishna Janmashthami, Vamana Jayanti, Ananta Vrata, Vara-Siddhivinayaka Vrata and Uma-Maheshwara Vrata.

During the bright fortnight (Shukla-paksha) of the month of Bhadrapada, the Jagadguru will preside over the Mahaganapati Vakyartha Vidvat Sadas, which was instituted by the 33rd Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Sri Sacchidananda Shivabhinava Narasimha Bharati Mahaswamiji nearly a century ago, for the preservation of the Traditional branches of knowledge and to encourage budding scholars. Scholars of traditional branches of knowledge like Tarka, Vyakarana Mimamsa and Vedanta  will congregate in the August presence of the Jagadguru for a fortnight long deliberations on Shastric matters.

The Chaturmasya will conclude with the Uma-Maheshwara Vrata on Bhadrapada Purnima which falls on September 28, 2015.
