Brief History of Sri Sringeri Shankar Math

The long cherished dream of the people of Bhadravathi to establish a Sringeri Shankar Math was realized with the blessings of the present Jagadguru Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Maha Swamiji.
Needless to say, His Holiness Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Maha Swamiji‘s visit during 1994 made all this possible.

With His Holiness blessings, a site measuring 100′ * 97′ was purchased from SUDA [Shimoga Urban Development Authority] in the year 1996. The actual work of laying the foundation stone (Shilaanyasa) was done by Sri Narayana Ashrama Swamiji of Kodandashrama Mutt, Hebbur, Tumkur Dist. Karnataka, in the year 1997.

With this, begins the real struggle for the further construction but, with the blessings of His Holiness, the construction went on smoothly and got completed by November 2000. His Holiness was kind enough to come and carry out the Kumbhaabhishekha and Pratishthapana of Sri Vallabha Ganapathi, Sri Sharadamba, Sri Chandramouleshwara and Sri Adi Shankaracharaya on the 6th, 7th and 8th of November 2000.

Temple

In front of these Garbha Gudies, there is a spacious prayer hall measuring 3060 sft. [60′ * 51′], which can accommodate around 400 devotees. The ground plan is quite simple but appeals nonetheless to the imagination of devotees. The goddess is visible from beyond the main door which is artistically carved. The artistically designed Gopura of the Temple attracts the attention of the passerby even from distance.

Deities

The Math consists of three Garbha Gudies one each for Sri Vallabha Ganapathi, Sri Sharadamba and Sri Chandramouleshwara & Sri Adi Shankaracharaya, surrounded by walk path for pradakshana.

Each Garbha Gudi has an artistically carved Door.

Functions and Events

With kind blessings of His Holiness every year the following functions are celebrated in a grand way:
1) Shankara Jayanti.
2) Sharannavaratri [10 days].
3) Kartik Deepotsava [Entire month].
4) Varshikotsava [Kartika Shudha Trayodasi].
5) Soundarya Lahari Deepa Namaskara and homa, Vishnu Sahasra nama parayana & homa and other Homas.
With kind blessings of His Holiness, our Branch has started the construction of Sri Bharati Tirtha Samudaya Bhavana adjacent to the Math, which is approximately 10,000 sft which is half way through and is expected to be completed within a short span of time.
