Veda Shastrottejak Sabha

Jagadguru being received with due honours at Vedashastrottejak Sabha, Pune

About 150 years back, a visionary named Justice Ranade established an institution in the city of Pune and named it as Vedashastrottejak Sabha, for the sole purpose spreading Sanskrit education in the country through the learned pundits of Pune.

There is evidence from the manuscripts of freedom fighter late Bal Gangadhar Tilak that link was maintained by this institute with Sri Sharada Peetham at Sringeri which was held in esteem as a referral authority in the Sanskrit language or interpretations thereof.

During the vijaya yatra in 2007, the Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji was requested to release the new edition of Taittriya Aranyakam. The Vedic scholars were pleasantly surprised when Jagadguru explained the chapter-wise contents of the book without referring to the contents even once.

This institute conducts Sanskrit examinations every year. Students who appear for the examination as well as the Ghanapathis as examiners arrive from Nagarkoil in South to Varanasi in North.

On occasions, the institute requests the Jagadguru Shankaracharya of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham to nominate a pundit from Sringeri for valedictory function.

The devotees of Shringeri Math, Pune provide provisions for food during the ten day examinations.
