The Jnanodaya School a premier school run by the Math at Bangalore. The school affiliated to the to Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi (CBSE) and currently has a strength of around 2000 students. Jagadguru Sri Ahinava Vidyatirtha Mahaswamiji was instrumental in establishing the School and inaugurated it on 10th April 1988 with Lower Kindergarten (LKG) and Upper Kindergarten (UKG) with premises insider the Shankara Math compound.

The school is now guided the present Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Bharati Theertha Mahaswamiji. Sri V.R. Gowrishankar, Administrator, Sri Sringeri Math and its Properties is the Chairman of the school.

Subjects Taught

English

Communicative approach for teaching is adopted. Activities with students participation are carried out to cover multi skills like reading, wilting, listening and speaking. To help students to achieve good communicative skills oral and writing exercises are given in the form of role play, debates, group discussion. Elocution, Speeches, Dialogue Writing, Essays, Story and poetry writing are also encouraged. Audio/videocassettes and CDs are used as media to improve pronunciation, intonation and listening abilities.

Sanskrit

Communicative approach is used to teach this language. To develop the competence of understanding this classical language children are guided to converse and write in simple Sanskrit. More emphasis is given to oral activities like recitation of Amarakosha, Subhashithas, Shlokas, Anthyakshari etc., to improve pronunciation, accents, intonation and memory power.

Hindi

This language is taught through activities with active participation by students. To improve the vocabulary, students are stimulated to communicate in Hindi. Debate, group discussion, enacting of skits by students become part of language teaching.

Kannada

Being the Regional Language it finds a prime place. Debate and Dramatisation, enacting of skits are also encouraged in the class.

Mathematics

Understanding of Mathematics is made simple by interactive approach where in students involve to do mathematics. Students are encouraged to participate in problem solving. Short cut methods and recreational mathematics are also taught.

Science

Learning of Science is centred with activities. Environmental studies is taught from I Std to V std. In Higher classes, Science is taught by integrating Physics, Chemistry and Biology. From VI Std. onwards students are allowed to conduct experiments in the laboratory. Seminars with students presenting papers on current topics are organised. Various projects/assignments are given to do research and understand the subjects better by assimilating the information from the school information center.

Social Science

History, Civics, Geography are taught as separate subjects, from VI Std. Life skill education is also imparted. Learning has added new dimension to become more activity based and child centred like co-operative learning and information handling.

Seminars are conducted by students on various topics like Cultural Heritage, Civilisation, World wars, Disaster Management etc. Projects/Assignments are given on various topics to enable the students acquire extensive knowledge.

Additional Subjects

Work Education

As purposive and meaningful manual work, work education helps the pupil to understand scientific facts and principles involved in various forms of work. It helps to inculcate socially desirable values such as self reliance, team work etc. In the lower classes clay modeling, Paper folding are also taught.

Art Education

Art classes are conducted at a traditionally built सुजन कुटीरम्. A Perfect congenial environment for creative learning of drawing and developing. Various art forms help the child explore various means of communication and to encourage him to express himself in his own way.

School provides a continuity of learning of visual arts from LKG to X Std. Drawing using crayons is taught in the lower classes which sharpens senses through keen communication of the environmnet. Painting to develop creative expression is taught in the middle classes. Art activities include two dimensional pictorial drawings. In the higher classes advanced visual art is taught using poster colours. Art project covering some definite themes are also given to higher classes to do research and understand the Art subject extensively.

Physical and Health Education

School is providing infrastructure for Basket Ball, Volley Ball, Kho Kho, Cricket, Shuttle, Badminton etc. and Carrom, Chess. Training is also given in Drill and Marching. Athletics, meaning and nature of health, developing good habits , nutritious food and their selection are also taught in the higher classes as part of health education. Training is also being given in bands and other related instruments. Yogasanas are also taught.

Activity Room

Activity Room for junior students from LKG to IV Std is fully equipped with multi sensory materials in order to enable the students to learn Mathematics and English by learning and doing themselves using these materials.

Talk by students ब्रह्मी

To improve the elocution and communication skills a platform has been created for the students of VIII, IX and Xth Std. and they meet weekly once. Every student has been given an opportunity to talk on any given definite topic or topic of his choice.

Raman Club

This is started to develop scientific attitude. Students from VI Std. onwards could join the club. In the club students are allowed to conduct simple experiments in the lab and they are motivated to do certain working models also. Senior students are asked to do research on some selected topics.

Club π

Mathematics is not about symbols and calculations. It is about ideas, in particular it is about the way the different ideas relate to each other. Students from VII Std. and above are eligible to become members of the club. The club encourages students to actually participate with the topics away from class room ones. Club is aimed to develop strategies

  • for solving mathematical problems
  • to practice the art of guessing and testing guesses.
  • to appreciate the need for discipline and stamina

while doing mathematics.

Music

Vocal, Violin and Mridangam classes are conducted to help children with talent in music.

Computer Education

School provides computer education from III Std. onwards. Computer Lab is equipped with good number of computers. Students are taught basic operations of computers like keyboard operation, word processing skills. In stages students are taught Logo, Basic, MS Office, Excel, E-mail, Internet, Powerpoint, Information handling and current topics of information technology.

Science Laboratory – Kanada

School is well equipped with necessary infrastructure for conducting practicals from VI Std. onwards, some fossils are also housed in the lab.
Practical classes are compulsory from VI Std. onwards.

Mathematics Laboratory – Aryabhatta

Mathematics Laboratory built from floor to ceiling with mathematical ideas. Students understand even difficult concepts easily by doing Mathematics kinesthetically through interactive models. Lab is well equipped with 3D and 2D models. The concrete visual models and manipulative kits allow Students to develop logical thinking.

Language Laboratory – Panini

Panini, the language lab is constructed to facilitate the students to develop language skills especially pronunciation, intonation, accent, rhythm, voice modulation etc. The main objective is to know and learn language, vocabulary grammar patterns, also practice language through various activities, with the help of standard cassettes. Student can record and listen to their own voices, which help them to analyse their progress and develop confidence to use the language in real-life situation. Language lab guides the students to comprehend the language effectively.

Exhibition

Facility is provided for students to exhibit their talents in various fields such as drawing, painting, models, working models in science, social science, maths etc.

Competitions

Literary competitions are held to encourage children to participate in debate speech, creative writing etc. in all the languages. Sports competitions are held in various fields both for individual and team events as well as for the houses. This is aimed at developing the qualities of sportsmanship. Competitions are conducted in Devaranarna, Rangoli, Flower Arrangment, Bhagavadgeetha, Lecture Cum Demonstration in Science and Drawing and Painting. School level Maths olympiad is organised to motivate the students to develop interest in Mathematics.

Utsavas

The school celebrates Ganesha Festival, Independence Day, Republic Day, Geetha Jayanthi, Sanskrit Day Hindi Day, Science Day, Maths Day, School Day and Founder’s Day.

Jagudguru Sri Sri Sachchidananda Shiuabhinava Narasimha Bharathi Information Centre

Jagudguru Sri Sri Sachchidananda Shiuabhinava Narasimha Bharathi Information Centre was inaugrated on the 21st of May 2007 by The Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji. The centre consists of a good number of quality books in languages with regard to novels, drama, creative writing, fiction and non fiction, grammar, pronunciation etc. Science shelf consists of varieties of books on projects, simple to advanced experiments, Historical development of Science, encyclopedias, books covering comprehensively on related topics. Social Science shelf is housed with varieties of books on histoiy – ancient, medieval, modern of India and world with latest researched information on civilisation. Several books on Geography, Political science, First and Second World War, Resources and Project Books are also figuring in the shelf. Mathematics wing consists number of activity books, History of Mathematics, puzzles. Problem solving books and challenge problems. General books on Astronomy, Architecture, Archaeology, Arts etc., are also maintained in the information centre. A number of Magazines ranging from comics to information technology including National Geographic Magazine Scientific American, Science reporter are available in the information centre and also News Papers for students to read during leisure. Audio/Video educational cassettes and CDs are housed in the information centre. Students from V Std. onwards could borrow books. A separate junior information centre has been provided for students from LKG to IV Std. A Good number of books suitable for young students to read are provided.

The school is well equipped with classroom infrastructure including but not limited to well light and well ventiated classroms with ample space and furniture to comfortably seat students for an optimal learning experience.

A large playground is also present in the school premises to cater to sports and other physical training for the physical well being of students.
