Activities


After the consecration of the three main deities, Ganesha, Sarada and Shankara at the lotus hands of H.H. Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji in the year 1992 a lot of dharmic activities have been taking place at the Sri Sringeri Shankara Math at Chembur with the blessings of His Holiness, which are as follows.

Sri Abhinava Vidyatirtha Veda-Samskruta Pathashala

Aimed at imparting Vedic and Sanskrit education to the devotees and denizens of Mumbai, the Pathashala was inaugrated in 1992 by His Holiness Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Bharathi Thirtha Mahaswamiji  after the consecration of the deities at the Sringeri Shankara Math at Chembur.

Since then Veda and Samskrita Classes are being conducted regularly. The classes are conducted on Sundays and Saturdays. Presently there are about 45 students learning Yajur Veda in the Patashala.

Similarly, Samskrita vargas are also functioning in the Patashala from 1992. Presently there are six teachers and about 40 students are learning Samskrita and appear for examinations conducted by the Sura Saraswathi Sabha (Regd) Sringeri and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai.

Sri Bharati Tirtha Veda-Shastra Granthayala

A library is also run and maintained by the Sringeri Shankara Math at Chembur, Mumbai which was also inaugrated in 1992 by His Holiness Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji at the time of the consecration.

This library houses many Sanskrit  books on Veda, Dharma Shastra, Purana, Vyakarana, Mantra Shastra, Vedanta, Itihasa, Sahitya, Jyotisha, Darshana, Nyaya, Mimamsa etc. In all there are more than 5000 books in Samskrita alone and books are also available in English, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, Marathi, etc.

Dharma Pracharam

The ‘Dharma Pracharaka’ of Sringeri Math at Mumbai, Sri A. S. Gopalakrishnan, has been conducting classes at the Sringeri Math, Chembur, for almost a decade and has taught Indian scriptures and Dharma through exposition of popular texts like Narayaneeyam, Kumara Sambhavam, Shivananda Lahari, Sundara Kandam, Durga Chandrakala Stuti etc to  students drawn from different age groups which.

Music Classes

Music classes in Carnatic Classical Music is also being conducted at the Math by the Aasthana Vidwan of Sringeri Math, Sri Anantarama Bhagavathar since a decade.
