Vyasa Poornima and Chaturmasya Guru Saparya 2026
The Chaturmasya begins on the Poornima (full moon day) in the month of Aashaada. This day is called “Guru Poornima.” This year it falls on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. On this sacred day, worship is offered to Brahma Vidyacharyas – the great luminaries of hoary antiquity, who through their Supreme grace, have bestowed the knowledge of Brahman - Brahma Vidya through a long, continuous and uninterrupted line of Acharyas.
The day is also called “Vyasa Poornima” and the Puja performed is titled “Vyasa Puja”. In our Guru Parampara that originates from Ishwara Himself, Bhagavan Veda Vyasa is held with the highest esteem by all followers of Sanatana Dharma. Bhagavan Veda Vyasa has brought about everyone’s welfare. Brahmarshi Shuka, Sri Gaudapada and Sri Govinda Bhagavatpada kept the light of the Parampara burning. Then came the Great Master, Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya, who revived Sanatana Dharma and carried its teachings far and wide throughout Bharatavarsha. The Vyasa Poornima and the entire Chaturmasya period are indeed very auspicious occasions to express our gratitude to the entire Guru Parampara and to renew our Guru Bhakti.
Keeping this in mind, to foster Gurubhakti in devotees, as per the direction and blessings of Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji and Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Sri Vidhushekhara Bharati Mahaswamiji, all Sanatana Dharma followers are required to organise the Vyasa Puja celebrations in a grand and befitting manner at your respective centres, incorporating the events listed below.
Let us pay our humble tribute to the Brahma Vidya Guruparampara by performing the Gurusaparya Parayana every day throughout the sacred Chaturmasya Vrata period, from 29th July to 27th September 2026 and be the recipients of the blessings of the Jagadguru.
Your Sincerely,

Dear followers of Sanatana Dharma,
The 36th Peethadheeshwara of Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahasannidhanam will be observing His 52nd Chaturmasyam in the Parabhava samvatsara along with His successor-designate, Sri Sri Vidhushekhara Bharati Swamiji, in Sringeri.

Devotees have always deemed it a privilege and duty to offer Bhiksha Vandanam, Vastra Samarpanam and other sevas to the Jagadgurus during Chaturmasya. It is indeed an auspicious occasion to have Darshan of the Jagadgurus and receive Their Blessings.
Details of important days during the Chaturmasya are enclosed. I am sure that all devotees would offer their Sevas at the Lotus Feet of the Jagadgurus during this period and get blessed. Prior information of your program and Sevas to be offered will help us in proper coordination.

Chaturmasya Vrata is observed in accordance with the Shastras by Sannyasis for a period of two months from Ashadha Poornima to Bhadrapada Poornima. During the Chaturmasya, Sannyasis refrain from moving from place to place, enabling them to devote their time to meditating on the Supreme Brahman, teaching the Shastras to eligible disciples and clearing the doubts of all sincere spiritual seekers.
The Chaturmasya begins on the Poornima (full moon day) in the month of Aashaada. This day is called ‘Guru Poornima’. On this sacred day, worship is offered to Brahma Vidyacharyas- the great luminaries of hoary antiquity, who through their Supreme grace, have bestowed the knowledge of Brahman - Brahma Vidya - through a long, continuous and uninterrupted line of Acharyas.
The day is also called “Vyasa Poornima” and the Puja performed is titled “Vyasa Puja”. In our Guru Parampara that originates from Ishwara Himself, Bhagavan Veda Vyasa is held with the highest esteem by all followers of Sanatana Dharma. Bhagavan Veda Vyasa has brought about everyone’s welfare by classifying the Vedas into four, by summing up the messages of the Upanishads in His Brahma Sutras, and by penning the great epic Mahabharata as well as the eighteen Puranas. Sri Shuka, Sri Gaudapada and Sri Govinda Bhagavatpada kept the light of the Parampara burning.
