In an effort to promote the timeless wisdom of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, the Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri, under the divine directions of Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji, launched the Gita Jnana Yagna initiative in 1995. In 2006, the reward was further enhanced to inspire greater participation.
Individuals of all ages are encouraged to memorize and recite all 700 verses of the Bhagavad Gita. Participants are first examined by scholars of the Math, and upon commendable performance, receive a certificate, a cash prize of ₹21,000, and the benign blessings of the Jagadguru.
Thousands have taken part in this sacred Yagna, upholding and reviving the living tradition of Gita chanting. This month alone, nearly 1,000 participants are scheduled to take the examination. Earlier today (4th June 2025), over 100 participants appeared for the exam, and those who successfully completed it were graciously blessed by Jagadguru Sri Sannidhanam.
